Buying Ergonomic Equipment

  • Find the Best Ergonomic Mouse—Just because it says "ergonomic" doesn't mean it’s right for you. Learn how to select the best ergonomic mouse for your hand.
  • Ergonomic Mouse Shopping Checklist—Take MOD® Solution's exclusive ergonomic mouse shopping list that walks you through all of the things to check to ensure that you select the right mouse at the store.
  • Find the Best Ergonomic Desk Chair—Often desk chairs are labeled as "ergonomic," but that does not mean they will cure your back pain. Learn how to select the best ergonomic desk chair for your height and body frame.
  • Ergonomic Desk Chair Shopping Checklist—When you go chair shopping, take MOD Solution's® exclusive desk chair shopping checklist so you’ll have all the details to look for in selecting the chair that will best support your body.

Recommendations

  • For Lap Top Stands—This is an excellent tool to hold your lap top when using it with a standard desk. Specifically a Lap Top Stand helps with neck and low back pain. I have one and loan it out to workers before they buy it to ensure they can feel the difference. Check it out at www.keynamics.com.
  • Keyboards—The Microsoft® 4000 is my favorite and unless the worker needs some additional support at the forearm I do not deviate from this keyboard. Using this keyboard places the worker’s arms in the recommended position. It can be found at various retail sources through Google™: Microsoft 4000 keyboard

Organizations—Informational

  • Arthritis Foundation at http://www.arthritis.org—Arthritis is an autoimmune disease that creates it own discomfort and pain. Any person who deals with arthritis each day knows this all too well. The impact of joint destruction can be either rapid or a slow process. Many of my patients/clients have identified their pain and discomfort as being related only to their disease. However, we have shown this is seldom the case as ergonomic equipment and anatomy education have proved extremely helpful to the arthritic sufferer in the reduction of joint stress. There is a definite difference in discomfort that is caused by the lack of or improper equipment and the pain of arthritis. Educate changes everything.
  • NIOSH (National Institute for Safety and Health) at http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/ in addition to the website, the staff at the institute is very helpful if you have specific questions regarding worksite issues such as ergonomics, air quality, musculoskeletal concerns. This link will take you to information on their new Work Life Programs— http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/programs/worklife/.
  • OSHA at www.osha.gov—This government site is specific to employers.
